Suite performance on Win2k vs. WinXP & Vista

I don't know if this has been talked about before because I dont really know how to search for it. But anyways when I plug my usb drive into my Win2k box and run portableapps.exe it says "loading" in the system tray for about a second or two and opens the menu. Now on other windows xp and vista boxen I open portableapps.exe and its says "loading" for about 2-3 minutes before it opens the menu? Is there anyway to get it to open like it does in windows 2000?

Thanks,

Michael M.

Weird

Might be something else other than the OS. I mean, I haven't tried it on 2000 or Vista (though I just switched to Vista at home) but at home prior to Vista and at work (XP Pro Sp2 in both cases) both PAM 1.1 and PAP 1.5.2 launched almost immediately. PAM R34 MOD, however, takes about 30-45 seconds to load on either machine. geek.menu was faster than that, but I can't say how it compared to the official menus - it wasn't slow enough to make me think about its speed.

Im such a dork!

I totally forgot I was using PAM R34 MOD. Its been so long since i switched over that i forgot. I love the .pafdata files that organize everything thing into folders. Is there anything you might suggest? Btw thanks for the quick reply!

Like what?

Might suggest as far as what? The official menu 1.5.2 will load faster, but no categories yet. The official menu's prettier, by default, but you can get skins for either. The MOD reportedly has bugs, but I've never experienced any (unless you count the loading time).

There's also geek.menu but I didn't really care for that.

Right now I recommend the official menu, as it's had the most recent developments. It's lacking features, but the features it's lacking and more are reportedly coming. So it really boils down to how important categories are for you. Without them, I can see why they're not a big priority to some.

on w2k

many things seem to happen slight different.
On my much slower machines then the XP here , the menu comes faster up on w2k then on the xp, thought the w2k machines are physically much slower hardware.

Some effects seem to go to file handling of w2k and xp. For example comapacting TB folders takes on w2k few seconds, on xp number of minutes (same stick same TB same folders).
