start-up from home computer is "long winded"

I've used Thunderbird portable apps in another lifetime in another world not too long ago. I moved on to a new company recently and to my horror I am not allowed to use my laptop for anything personal! How dare them! I can't even load a cd into my nuetered laptop without sending the disc to the computer Nazi's and have them scan and check it for potential virus's and fingerprints. Since I travel quite a bit I realized the only way to get my emails would be thru the public computers that a hotel would keep in the lobby. Yuck! Who knows where someone's fingers may have been??? Anyway, I figured out (trust me...this takes some doing by me) that I needed to go back to portable Thunderbird. I loaded it on a thumb drive and set it up (of course I did this without the use of the instructions). I thought life just got sweeter! It worked like a charm at the Hotel de Cheapo! My issue is that to my wife's disgust, I eventually had to go home. When I ever so gingerly placed the thumb drive into my Belkin 7 port USB hub with mag wheels I noticed that to open Portable Apps I had to open my C drive, open my D drive then click on the folder for Portable Apps - I'm tired just typing that out let alone doing that EVERYTIME I want to see my email. I remember (not too often at my advanced age) that when I used Portable Apps in my other life all I had to do was plug in the thumb drive and it booted up. As the 1987 winner of the "Laziest man in America" I'm troubled that I have to do all of this work just to read my emails about all of the foreign lotteries I've miraculously won! How can I set up my Portable Apps to open when I plug in my thumbdrive?
