Hello, I use several portable apps, they all work except Infrarecorder, which I am using 0.44.1 Rev 3, (Older Version), it works on my WinXp, but on my Win98 It starts the splash it then disappears and that's it, I went into the folder and tried to run both the Irexpress and the Infrarecorder they do the same thing.
Any suggestions ?.

InfraRecorder, Windows 98
Like a majority of apps, InfraRecorder dropped all support for Windows 95/98/Me.
This last year has basically been the death of Windows 98 with everything dropping support for it. Firefox, OpenOffice.org, AbiWord, GIMP, Pidgin, Sunbird, Thunderbird (in 3.0), etc. We'll probably create a single legacy pack download of all the old stuff that supports it and then drop support for Win9x across the board shortly.

Hi John, a single legacy pack download would be cool. When I first started using Infrarecorder I didn't upgrade knowing I was going to use it on Win 98, so I stuck with my 0.44.1 Rev 3, I just looked at the help file and went to the system requirements and it says Win 95, IE:5, BUT, I did noticed in a section called what's new, they fixed a bug where it wouldn't work on WIN 9x for some call to Shell something or nother, may or may not still be a problem or my problem. Just thought I would mention that section. But I do wonder since I believe this is suppose to be okay with WIN 98, since it is a older version, why it does not run. Since I know nothing about why, I can only speculate, But I remember the cdda2wav.exe not working so I changed it out for a different version, infact I think I have a post here some where about it. Or maybe the Temp or saved directories being WinXP style like, Documents and Settings/USER NAME/ My Documents or something to that effect, and not Win 9x Style, I wonder if one of those might be a culprit, but I doubt it.
The portable version has always been Windows 2000+ only since it's highly unlikely a Windows 98 PC you came across would have the necessary stuff installed to use a CD burner anyway (while Windows 2000 and up has this included in the OS, Windows 98 did not and needed it installed locally). InfraRecorder saw it the same way and has dropped Win9x as well.

InfraRecorder 0.44.1.0 works fine on my Windows 98 boxes. It can still be found here at Sourceforge.
My suggestion is to install the portable version, then overwrite the true app files with the 0.44.1.0 or lower equivalent.
I should have studied the file list more thoroughly!
Looking at the list of files for Infrarecorder, from 0.41 to 0.45 inclusive, there are both unicode and ansi versions. Obviously one needs the ansi version for Win98. I am not sure if their portable version is ansi or unicode.
