Pidgin crashes soon after start - always

EDIT: Reboot and fast "killing" of Facebook IM does the trick sometimes... Can you overload Pidgin Portable? Would you recommend the full pidgin with a lot of Plugins? Can you combine pidgin portable and the regular one? e.g. autocopy your logfiles to the portable version but using the regular while being at home?!
And also: How to make p - portable more stable?

2nd EDIT: IT's not only facebook that kills it. I disabled the facebook account but crashes still occur.

3rd EDIT: IT IS THE MSN ACCOUNT!

4th: Deleting and re-adding all the accounts did the trick.

Yeah basically the topic says it all.
I cannot start Pidgin Portable from the USB flashdrive any more, or it crashes after a short time.

Plugins:
Buddy Notes
Buddy State Notification
History
OTR
Pidgin Encryption
[Facebook IM (worked before, though!)]
Psycho-thing (msg window appears as soon as the other starts typing)

I connect to:
ICQ
Jabber
MSN
AIM
[Facebook]
MySpace IM

It worked all fine until just now. I cannot really start pidgin any longer (it loads, but after all the connections are built up it crashes (simply disappears). I had crashes like this occasionally before, but not constantly.

I use: Windows XP SP3

Well, a good place to start

Well, a good place to start would be to remove all of the plugins and reinstall them one by one, as well as disabling all of the accounts and do the same thing to see if you can isolate the problem. Also, a repair reinstall (reinstall over the top) of PP may clear up some issues. If nothing else you can uninstall and do a fresh reinstall.

so you believe that it's only

so you believe that it's only one plugin that causes the crash and not the whole software/update itself? Because I heard that Pidgin Portable generally doesn't run as secure any longer...

>_>

Well I know that Facebook IM is one that causes crashes a lot. I have had it happen before and have had to take it out... then a little while later a tried a new version and it worked.... That has happened a few times... Then I sometimes got crashes cause either the preferences or accounts were screwed up. So I had to delete them and change my prefs to my liking/re adding all my accounts.
Thanks,
Bensawsome

It's MSN. What (wrong)

It's MSN.

What (wrong) settings can cause Pidgin to crash because of MSN?

AHAHAHAHA Sorry, you crack me

AHAHAHAHA

Sorry, you crack me up. You bring up a topic that i brought up like months ago, except no one here knows what the solution is, nor will you get any answers from here, other than talking to the devs themselves.

And now I'm getting authentication failure on all of my pidgin problems (portable 2.5.4 and 2.5.5)

So yeah, I have it crashing constantly, so I don't use it anymore. That is, I don't go on MSN anymore. Now that my AIM doesn't work, I'm pissed.

Seriously, this is REALLY annoying. The devs prob too busy with other crap to care... oh well.

Kid, don't expect your pidgin to work any time. I've known about this problem in the latest client for ages.

Like I said, it's not gonna get fixed for a while.

Well...

The accounts file is probably corrupted. Keep in mind you you will have to re-add ALL of your accounts. That happened to me once and what I am about to explain fixed it Smile
You might want to delete the file which the accounts to login are stored. The file is located in:

X:\PortableApps\PidginPortable\Data\settings\.purple\

(Where X is the letter of your usb drive)
The file is called:

accounts.xml

Just make sure to exit pidgin then delete the accounts.xml file. Then you can just re-open pidgin and add the accounts again.
Thanks,
Bensawsome

No, that's not what I said

I don't assume to "believe" it is anything in particular, I just outlined steps you could take in order from least to most severe.

hey actually I re-added MSN

hey actually I re-added MSN and now it seems to work! I could even play with Proxy settings and it stayed up and online. I also installed pidgin over the old one, but this didn't change anything.

As I said. readding all the accounts (especially MSN) did the trick. Now it runs for hours straight Smile thanks for the tip.

Another info: Facebook IM _never_ did anything bad yet. It works well, thanks to the developers!
