FATE the Game

Is it possible to make a portable version of this game? One for version 1.22b and so that the load file will not be changed? As in same load file so if I were to insert my own I could run it from there? I was also wondering how to make portable apps since I was new.

I would love to see this

I would love to see this portable as well. However:
It is closed source, requires webtangent stuff (not sure what all, but alot), and its file are scattered all over. Also, the registry use is very prohibitive to the making of a portable version. Sorry.

For making a app, trying searching the forums for the Guerrilla Guide.

But welcome to PortableApps.com

Sounds like fun, I'd give it

Sounds like fun, I'd give it a go. I played a ton of Hack on the Amiga when I was a kid. I don't know what's wrong with the newer distributions, but the one I played had a shortcut icon for every player class (you just needed to enter your name) plus a tile editor. A lot of the complex stuff that exists in NetHack today was absent; it was a much simpler game, but still hard. I beat it maybe once, and I can't say for sure I wasn't using the Wizard mode cheat. And if you like that, you should see the email about the future version of it you can find in Deus Ex (which takes place in 2052). Something about having to negotiate an interstellar alliance with nothing but the Amulet of Yendor.

Of course Diablo and Diablo II (and Fate, it would seem) take a few pages from that old game's book. Still, I'd like to see an official Hack ported to a modern game engine.

Wait a minute. Isn't NetHack inherently portable? The original Hack was open source, wasn't it? HA! According to Wikipedia, NetHack is certified Open Source by OSI.

...Right? >>> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NetHack_General_Public_License

Oh, and on top of that, if you find the NetHack Wiki at Wikia, they have a link to all the NetHack tiles. "So what?" I hear you say. Well, they're all 16x16 which means they double as PortableApps.com avatars (if you can squeeze them to under 1kb as per the guidelines). Whether that resource is worth anything is up to you, but there's a lot to choose from:

Yeah. We need us a portable NetHack. Great game. But yeah, Fate would be cool to play with. Sorry for the diversion.

Possibility wise

Is it possible to make an app like this for personal use? I would like to use it even if I can't let others use it or release it to public. If it is possible to make a portable app with this game I would like to know a set of tools that could assist me in making the portable apps and I would also like to ask if there is a beginner guide for real beginners.

--whomever you choose to remember me by in the previous and current games I have and am playing.
-Word to the wise: Only with hard work can you do; only with persistance can you achieve.
