I don't use the Impress, or Draw or Math components so I don't want them to show in the menu. Back in version 1 I achieved that by blatting away the PortableApps mini-applications. Now in the new version I have to go edit the appinfo file to remove them from the menu. Worse if I adjust the number of icons and comment out the lines for the unwanted applications.
Except this doesn't work when I update OpenOffice.org Portable; because Writer, which I rely on, is listed as item 6 there are problems with phantom icons showing up (seems to grab the next mini-app in the directory and puts it up without a name). Only way to solve both the phantom entry(s) and only some applications is to go hack the items numbers to match the hacked icon count line. While there aren't that many updates this hackery becomes tedius afterall. Would be very helpful to be able to do this at the menu level.
Right-click in the menu on the unwanted icons and choose rename, then rename the icon to "". From what I can tell, they come back after an upgrade, but it is still the easiest way to hide icons, rather than manually editing the .ini file
Quamquam omniam nescio, nec nihil scio.
When I change the text to "" the icon is sorted to the top of the menu with a name consisting of two quotes! If I try to blank those out then the old name appears and I'm back to where I was.
You need to rename it to just a dash (this thing: - ) in 1.5.x to hide it. Or you can use the 1.6 Pre-Release in the beta forum and there is an option to hide directly in the right-click menu.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
