Hi, I've been using the PortableApps software for long time, and have enjoyed nearly every minute of it. Though one error has kept me wishing Firefox was easier to manage. I typically use 3 different computers on a daily basis, and have admin rights only on the first one, my home computer. Now this isn't typically a problem, as I can install Portable Apps from all 3 of them. What is my problem is Firefox's inability to be used on any more than one.
If I install Firefox Portable on my home computer and add themes and addons, it will work perfectly. But when I try to take it, via my WD My Passport Elite, to any of the other computers, I get an error when Firefox starts and it disables major parts of the browser.
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behavior when accessing security features."
When Firefox starts, I get this error in a pop-up and Firefox is stripped down to its bare minimum, the navigation buttons are inactive, my bookmarks are gone, and Firefox will not remember any of my passwords. Upon looking at the error, it may have to do with something about the admin rights, but I'm apprehensive about that as when I installed Firefox Portable from one of the computers that is restricted, I can install it normally and everything I install works beautifully.
This problem has me rather irritated, as I rely on my bookmarks and addons to remind me of scheduled events and to check updated webpages.
Thanks for your time.
This is usually caused by corruption on the drive or using NTFS as the file system without having security descriptors disabled.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
My drive isn't corrupt, at least I don't think it is. It was corrupt yesterday and so I defragmented and cleaned it, and reinstalled my Portable Apps, so I don't think it's corrupt.
But is the NTFS file system really causing the problem? When I formatted it during yesterday's drive cleanup I noticed it was formatted in the NTFS system, but there weren't any other choices I could have made to change the system. Huh.
Well, thanks for your time again, and I'll look into this problem further.
