There is no option for selecting which file types will be associated with VLC. If I set in file association in widows my computer, for example, it says: not valid application of win32 type...thanks

I've been using the Search function, and still haven't found the answer to the OP's question.
Might have been nice if you spent your time providing information instead of rants.
I found two pages of topics under file+association. PortableApps cannot easily be set up to do file associations. The registry is usually used to accomplish this. I know there is a program out for FireFox to do some file associations since this original post almost 6 months ago called DefaultMyFFP or something like that.
