Task Coach Portable 7.22.3 vs. Installer 7.23 - Can we update a portable app?

I have downloaded and launched Task Coach Portable (XP Pro sp3 here) today. It was a message "version 7.23 available".

Here is my question: can we - I think we cannot - update a portable version simply downloading a new version over it?

This question worth for Task Coach as for any other portable apps.

Thanks.

Unfortunately no

I am a daily TaskCoach Portable user so i too am waiting for the update. It is recommended not to use the built-in updater for any PortableApps. You can drop in the updated files yourself but it is not recommended.

Will do

Thanks that answers my question.

What's the average time frame between an app update and its update on portable apps.com?

Not Long

It should only be a few days (we aim for 24 hours), however my PortableApps.com stuff has really fallen behind lately. I actually updated everything for BonkEnc and Task Coach today, I just have a little bit more to make sure I did it all right with all the installer changes and such and you should see it soon.

update

Has anyone heard anything on the Task Coach update? An earlier message said just a few days but.....it looks like they are up to 73.0 now.

Thanks.

I am wondering if we can talk

I am wondering if we can talk freely about other portable software alternative (not open source) on the board? I have been using task coach and I have moved to a more suitable solution - for me. Can I share the information with other users, for their information or is it not welcome? Thanks. (this a question for a mood or the site owner)

Legal ONLY

Only if it is legally published by the original software publisher. Not if some random 3rd party site is repackaging it illegally.

Glad I can share some

Glad I can share some information. The software is portable. Free. Proprietary. for those interested, here is the link (link removed) and here a interesting review about the software(link removed)

I use it in addition to Gantt Project - I hope we will have it portable ready on portableapps.com (still in dev.) soon.

ToDoList helps me on a regular basis with simple to medium projects and task lists. Feel free to give it a try. There are a few others, but this one answers best my needs and it offers a good visual quality dealing with long sub-tasks lists. XML format is a must for this type of app. You can hold the lists on a network share or your FTP server.
