Progress on PAM 1.6

Hey, I've been trying out the PAM 1.6 beta and I like what I see but I was wondering how it was coming along as far as official release? I AM NOT asking for a timeline. I know better than that. I was looking more for an answer along the lines of "it's about x% done" or "it's in final bugtesting" or "we have 2 or 3 more things we haven't gotten in yet" or something like that. I'm just curious how it's progressing, especially after reading about John's meetings with the different flash drive companies and him saying that they wanted some specific features and such. Again, I don't want to know when it will be done, I was just wanting to know where it is right now. Thanks Smile

Nearly Complete

The backup and restore translations have been completed and both utilities have been compiled and digitally signed. The seven different color themes are complete. The final bugs with the 1.6 PR0 release have been ironed out (now always-on-top, refresh always works, move to top is now favorite, tray tooltip will remember to always show, etc). The updater now properly works in both add and update mode with all SourceForge mirrors with all currently hosted apps and will automatically install all apps in the current installer format (skipping the welcome, finish and directory selection pages and automatically using the same options as the existing install going forward like english vs multilingual).

I'm currently adding the translations into the platform and the updater. Then I'll be checking them all functionally and then updating the platform installer and releasing it. I'm guessing about 4 or 5 more hours, but sometime before midnight NY time.

Pre-Pre

There was a special pre-pre-release given out to everyone who was in the IRC chat room at midnight. It pays to stick around Smile

I'm finishing up the actual pre-release now.

KVIRC is about 4 times as

KVIRC is about 4 times as big, has way more configuration than I will ever need, and besides, Pidgin handles ALL of my IM needs. Not gonna get into a "which is better" argument here, but Pidgin is far better for my needs, now that I've *almost* figured out how to use it.

To use a cliché:

(I'm sure it must be a cliché by now!)

Various It'll come when it's ready.

It'll come sometime. And the version may not be 1.6, either...

John Carmack

Did John Carmack (of id software) coin that phrase, or is it, as I suspect, far older?

Interesting

But is that something that anybody can do, or only developers? And do you need to use IRC itself to do it? IRC is blocked here.

IRC logs are available here:

IRC logs are available here: http://patrickpatience.com/nascent-project/portableapps/irc/logs/
Although if you want the time and date you'll have to hunting for it yourself Biggrin
Note: John took down the download, probably because of people actually talking about the logs.
