More standard folder icons

It could be interesting to get more folder-type icons to use with our Documents sub-folders. It's fine to have Videos, Pictures or Music folders, but I'm pretty sure most of us have other folders to store certain type of data.

For instance, I have the following general folders that might be interesting for others too:

- Downloads: for all stuff downloaded from the Internet.
- Library: where I store my eBooks
- File cabinet: where I move all the reference material and old documents I do not need any longer on a daily basis.
- Data: where I stored the actual documents I create (documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc.), grouped by subject or project.

Since I'm an advocate of the Getting-Things-Done personal productivity system, I also have two extra folders:

- Inbox: to collect all stuff arriving to my system that need to be processed and organized somehow.
- Outbox: to collect all stuff to be sent to others.

I'm perfectly aware this could not have a high priority in the platform development. Thus I rise my hand as a volunteer to create new icons for these and other folder types. I just need the official folder icon/image without any other extra artwork, i.e. a plain folder icon.

I'd also appreciate if someone could tell me where to find free images similar to the ones used by John T Haller, so I can create icons with similar look and feel.

Why not just modify the Tango icons and use those?

I mean, you could just take the standard folder icon and use a little cutting-and-pasting to get some of the filetype icons on the folders as well.

Always full of important information you don't need.

There is a documents folder

There is a Documents folder, and that sounds like Data, as you describe it.

There is space for 4-5 more folders, so I don't see why not.

Perhaps a future version of the platform/menu could have an option in the installer and menu itself to add, remove, and rename folders (remove only empty, of course). Like have a small library of folder icons that could be used, the user sets the name to display and the name of the actual folder (they might be different, I suppose), as well as chooses an icon, and it adds it to the list.

Just a suggestion, but I'd be interested. My Documents folder is getting a little crowded.

Yay

With folders, I have nearly 200 items there.

Not what I meant

Yes, I know there's a Documents folder where all data I produce should go in (and in fact goes in). But as happens with My Documents folder in Windows, the Documents folder in my stick is intended to hold more than that. Music, for instance, is not really produced by me, but is stored there. The same goes for books, or some videos and pictures.

The issue here is how to organize all that stuff inside the Documents folder. Like yours, mine starts to be overcrowded. That's why I thought of building a more coherent subfolder structure inside Documents. And that's why I created a Data folder inside, among others, to set apart my actual data (i.e., documents) from other material like music, pictures, videos, downloads, books, etc.

I guess our Document folders are not the only ones that are getting crowded with lot of unorganized stuff. Thus I suggest creating an extended subfolder structure inside Documents, beyond the current three subfolders (Music, Pictures and Videos). The subfolders I propose might be used by most users, in combination with the icon library and mechanism you propose, that I think is quite interesting and functional.

Icon Package

At least it would be nice to have the vertical folder released just as an Icon itself, which then could be amended in IcoFX. I would love to see that icon throughout my portable drive. I like the look of it. I would love to use it for my Fiction folder and my Python scripts folder and my Documents/Downloads folder.

Tango

They're just the Tango icons, you can get that from the Tango project. (Or are they Oxygen now? One or t'other, I think. John can confirm if he feels like it.)
