Almost every time I launch Thunderbird Portable and try to send an email, I get an error that it can't connect to the SMTP server. When I check Account Settings -- Outgoing Server (SMTP) Settings, the Description, Server Name and User Name are blank.
Has anyone else seen this happen?
on my side, I am not 100%sure abt the whole mechanism, but could think here that your TB is looking for some wrong profile, e.g. local installed one instead of the portable one.

Hi Otto, thanks for the reply.
I've never installed Thunderbird locally (on my work machine), so I don't know why it wouldn't look at just the path for the portable install. I've started exiting the portable client using CTRL+Q instead of clicking the X to close the program, which seems to have helped some.
It's not losing the setting every time, but enough to be annoying. Another thing it has done recently is ask on startup whether Thunderbird should be the default email client, even though I don't have it set to check that under Options - System Defaults.

more abt this, but sometimes you can have kind of bad usb stick and things might go lost there, e.g. the profile damaged, sometimes strange things happens when someone tries to make update by click on the TB internal updater instead of installing the update from this site. Also starting the thunderbird.exe instead the thunderbirdportable.exe mixies things up.
