I'm running Firefox 3.5.2 off of my flash drive, and for some reason every minute or so it slows down and freezes for about 15-20 seconds, and then is fine for another minute. what's going on?

That's usually due to something writing to your flash drive. Do you have any extensions running? Any other apps running that may be writing to the drive?

Well, I have an RSS ticker running at the bottom. Other than that there's no application running.
