May want to copy your data and reinstall

It sounds like the symptom of trying to update a compressed version of the program (like with UPX) except when the full installation failed as well. Perhaps something got corrupted...

Shock

At this point, it may be easier if you just copy your data folder (and any extensions in the application folder), erase PTB, reinstall the latest PTB, move your copied folder(s) back in, then have PTB "check for updates" again.

Hi,

scrmax and welcome to the forums. Firstly could you tell us the version of PTB that you were using before you tried to update? Also make sure there is at least 10mb of space on you drive before you try.

...

Don't you mean Alpha 3? If they're already on RC3, those milestones are going by really fast.

Well,

You have been making a few spelling mistakes.
On my this keyboard, you have to press really hard and you cant touch type.
There's a built in spell checker? And RC3?
I think you said RC3 cause you've been playing with Sync a lot Wink

Thank you

Hello,

I used version 1.5.0.2 and folders and files are not read-only. I don't understand why, but when I copy folder profile, reinstall portable thunderbird 1.5.0.2 and execute auto-update, it works fine. After, I've reinstalled plugins and copied my profile folder.

Perhaps it's due to plugins...

1.5.0.2 -> 1.5.0.4 auto update NOT successful

I am running the version of 1.5.0.2 that has GnuPG installed in it, as downloaded.

This morning, without my asking, I got a dialog box:

Thunderbird is installing your updates and will start in a few moments...

After about 5 minutes I got:

One or more files could not be updated. Please make sure all other applications are closed and that you have permission of modify files, and then restart Thunderbird to try aagain.

after which the program starts up, but Help/About still shows 1.5.0.2

I have tried everything I can think of - shut down anii-virus, shut down PStart (which I use to run the programs on my USB drive) , re-booting.... I DO have administrator rights on this machine, and the folders and files are nor read-only.

Any help would be welcome.

Space

How much space is there on the drive, error messages are not often correct in my experience.

Problem is...

It seems the problem is between the Portable and the full blown version (PC install version). The question should be...how do we cancel the current update??

Check free area

Sorry for my english, I'm Japanese.

You must to check free space of the device that thunderbird installed.
I was faced to fail the update like you when only 5MB free.
Move some data to other storage and make 47MB free, then update succeed.
It looks about 30MB free area needed in my case.

I hope it helps.

walts, it sounds like you

walts, it sounds like you have TB open while updating. Or, files in the PTB directory are read-only.

Problem Solved

Whatever the problem was, it resolved itself this morning. And before you ask, no I did not free up any space nor did I need to do anything else. As of this morning, it fixed itself without any intervention.
