why when i am done encrypting a drive the i unmont it and go to plug it back in it ask me to format the drive please help

Your best option is to subscribe to the TrueCrypt User Forums: http://forums.truecrypt.org/
If you do a full drive encryption, such as with a flash drive, Windows will not recognize the drive as anything more than random data. You need TrueCrypt to mount the drive. I recommend creating an encrypted container on the drive with a portable installation of TrueCrypt on the drive. I suggest reading this beginner's guide tutorial: http://www.truecrypt.org/docs/tutorial
