I am thinking of adopting Ceedo as my preferred 'portable environment'.
Alas, when I downloaded the latest version of Ceedo Personal, everything was fine although I kept getting what looked like an internet access everytime I changed something in the Ceedo Options tab. I thought that strange and the Ceedo forum said it was a known bug that would be fixed in their next release.
Then I'm reading about these other users with Runtime errors and that Ceedo would not work. I put 2 + 2 together and switched off my wireless connection - and low and behold Ceedo displayed a runtime error and would not work.
So, at the moment Ceedo Personal will not work without an internet connection. This, in my book, defeats the object of a portable operating environment. Seems as though Ceedo have shot themselves in the foot a bit with this programming error. So, sticking with PA at the moment.
Just thought I would mention that.
Ceedo is payware; it's probably "calling home" to ensure it's legit. "Portable" and "Payware" don't go together very well unless something called "warez" is a factor. Sure, you can have 2 versions of the app - the registered version and the unregistered version, and just trust users of the registered version not to share it, but once the registered version gets put on BitTorrent or LimeWire, the app's author is SOL. When countermeasures are used, portability gets sacrificed somewhere; it's got to. That's why free, open source portable apps make the most sense.
