Eraser Portable 5.8.7 fails to save settings for erasing preferences.
I have had a lot of trouble trying to change the settings for Erasing in Eraser Portable.
I want to use a lower setting to speed up erasing on unimportant documents.
I also want to reduce the total number of read write operations, to extend the life of my drive.
The default and most secure setting of 'Gutman's' with 35 passes is just too slow to complete and if intensively overused could lead to early drive failure.
I've noticed the same thing for me. It seems that when you change the erasing method in Eraser Portable, a file called Eraser.ini is created in C:\Windows, with the new erasing method string. If you then either delete that file, or move to another PC that doesn't already have it, your erasing method will reset to the default. If I knew what to look for, I'd examine the source code to see why it is creating this file.
I used to have a sig...until one of the mods ate it
I just extracted the Eraser 5.87 source code to a folder and did a text search for 'eraser.ini' and found two files with that in it. Not being a programmer, I have no idea what the code does, but it looks as though Eraser does this deliberately. Possibly it just isn't fully portable. Oh well.

How to quick fix this problem:
1. Browse Portable Apps Folder -> Search for eraser.exe
2. Run eraser.exe as administrator
3. Change settings to your prefered eraser method
4. Close program
5. Run as usally on portable apps launcher
