I looked at the backup option in this program, and was happy at first until I realized it is only a static backup.
Is there any way this can be made incremental, ie with Open Source technologies, or must I look elsewhere for what I need.

For incremental backups of your drive, a local backup tool is an option (though the open source ones I liked are both abandoned projects at the moment). You can also use Toucan (which is a portable app) from us.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
That's very sad to hear.
I was looking for a completely integrated solution, but since none exists, I must keep to what I know but I will look at toucan.
Problem is as always, whoever wrote that law about memory and computer power was right. The single backup file idea is good but then I guess there's always re-writable CD's but I've never been too keen, I just wanted something simple where I could create an archive and work with it as I please.
There is .mou format but currently it isn't writable and it's commercial.
