Indeed i second the request to have GRASS portable.
GRASS GIS is an open source Graphical Information System software used as the main alternative to expensive commercial sw.
I didn't know Quantum GIS so far, but i saw the web page and looks promising.
So definitely i'd be pleased if someone could make them portables.
