I obviously removed my sandisk cruzer incorrectly. doing so means I lost all of my emails and profiles. I have the thunderbird backed up using always sync n go for U3. I tried doing a restore by simply resyncing -- but that had no effect.
How do I restore all of my e mails and profiles?
I use this at three different computers - and tried (foolishly) doing the resync at two of them with the sync n go. This is the only e mail program I am using right now - and cannot afford to loose all of those e mails and information.
please help!!!!
Very important that bit... until you get this sorted out, I would strongy urge that you only use Windows explorer to copy files around, and NOT Allway Sync.
What you will need to do, on the third computer, the one that you have not yet resynced, is to open the folder you sync to, navigate down into PortableApps\ThunderbirdPortable\Data\Profile and copy all the files in there into the equivalent place on your flash drive.
When you resynced with Allway Sync 'n go, you most likely copied the corrupted files over your backups, since they were the ones that had changed, so they were the "new and current" files as far as it was concerned.
Best of luck
guessed about the overwrite for the results of syncing on the other two computers.
ok. I am home now -- on the third computer. On this one, the sync was set to go to the cruzer in another file (which I had been checking when I was at other puters).
On the cruzer there is a file with e mails -- but only those 5/21 when I did the first sync on the cruzer. this is the computer that I used when I installed all of the apps
I cannot find a file on the computer labeled portableapps at all. I am using vista, and used the search box - with no result
I can open the e mails that were done 5/21 and earlier - but of course cannot find any of the ones since then
next suggestion?
The PortableApps folder wouldn't be on your PC, it's on your portable device.
on my cruzer is the following
1. the file that should have been my backup - only shows e mails dated 5/21 - which was my original syncing -- but no profile is there
2. in the cruzer there is a system file -->apps -->file with letters and numbers -->data-->profile
in file labeled "mail" i see folders that should reflect each of my e mail addresses, which are not showing up in thunderbird
i also see a folder called local folders and another called local folders-1 in these i see a file labeled file and another labeled msf file
search "thunderbird" in windows explorer not portableapps and scan "my computer" not C:\\
results from that search
- emails (I copied the whole cruzer to a separate file when I got home)
- two applications thunderbirdforu3clean and stop - which do not open - saying the path does not exist
- icons
-registration entries --eml -unread -thunderbird
What was the destination folders? (the whole path?)
I have taken that sync off so I am able to sync all others -- but the path was M:\my emails (M is the cruzer) for back up
simply email all those emails from yourself to yourself. Are you using thunderbird or outlook or ???
while that makes sense to me - I don't know why but the only e mails I have in the sync folder are from the very first sync I did -- 5/21/09 - can't find any of the other e mails since then -- and I was only using this thunderbird on the jump drive
went to justanswer.com tech there had me download http://www.nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/ImportExportTools-2.3.0.1.xpi (didn't work so http://nic-nac-project.de/~kaosmos/ImportExportTools-2.3.0.2.xpi) - put it as an add on, which made it possible to 2) Done that, open Thunderbird and navigate to Tools > Add-ons (or Extensions), and click on 'Install' in the dialog box that comes up.
3) Now, browse to the XPI file you had downloaded, and select 'Open'.
4) At the next window, click on 'Install Now' in order to install the add-on, and restart Thunderbird thereafter.
5) Now, go to 'Tools' once again and navigate to Import/Export in mbox/eml format > Import mbox file.
6) Done that, enable the 'Select a directory where searching the mbox files to import (also in subdirectories)' option, and click 'Ok'.
7) At the 'Browse' window that comes up, navigate to the \Mail subfolder in the new profile folder you had copied earlier on to another location, and click 'Ok'.
8) You should get a few confirmation prompts now, one after the other; just click 'Yes' to all of them.
9) Now, check in your 'Inbox' directory in Thunderbird if all of your emails have been retrieved ...let me know how you get on
which meant I recovered all of my e mails -- thanks to everyone who tried to help
