XP to VISTA and Back agin

Hey Guys ,

I did a search and could not find the answer -- So here is the question ... I run XP on my office computer -- I am constantly seraching through old emails , so even though I compact my old files -- They getting uncompacted pretty quick .. Occasionally I take business trips and my laptop has XP --- It is almost impossible to use the portable app on vista for the first time -- It takes forever for it to load and when I go back to XP , it seems to take a while to get back up and running again . Anyone have asolution for this ... I even cantacted HP and asked them about a downgrade back to XP , but they insisted I would have to pay for it ..

Has nothing to do with the OS

It more than likely has to do with the drive letter for your device being different between the two machines. It seems when the drive letter changes, TBP takes a while to launch; presumably a lot of data has to be processed to compensate for the change. The only thing you can do is try to change the drive letter on one or both machines so it's the same on both machines.

I know that on Vista you can permantly rename a drive , so that everytime it is hooked up it is the same , do you know if it can be done on XP -- I will try and google it .. Thanks for the info ...

One problem gone and another one arises

That seemed to do the trick -- I renamed the drive on Vista to match the drive on XP and walah fixed -- Now I get an error when trying to download email on vista -- Unable to write email to folder -- Please make sure you have full write permission and that there is enough available space on the disk .. That is not the exact wording but it in a nut shell ... Seemd that the software does not like having the amount of emails we have in Vista ... I also can nopt delete an inbox item because it says the trash is too full ...
Is there a solution to clean this up and still have all my old email searchable ?? -- And if curious -- We have about 1/2 the drive in use ... So there should be plenty of room there ..

Here is the exact error I am getting on Vista and not XP

"Unable to write the email to the mailbox. Make sure the file system allows you write privileges, and you have enough disk space to copy the mailbox. "

User privileges

Sounds like a user privilege problem on Vista or it could be related to the drive renaming (or maybe both - one leading to the other).

I think It must have

I think It must have something to do with the amount of email I have on the account ... I looked at another account and it didnt have the same issues -- I am going to try and move some of the mail to a dummy account folder ..
