Can Firefox Portable Apps be used on Linux?

Greetings All!

I'm a total newbie when it comes to using linux, usbs, and portable apps. So if I sound ignorant, please forgive me. I don't even know if I'm in the right forum!

Here's my dilemma:
1. I have a desktop with XP and I use Firefox as my browser.
2. I just bought an Asus EEEPC 1000 with linux (xandros).
3. I do not want to download XP on the netbook.

My questions are:
1. Will the firefox portable apps (on an usb pny 4gb) work with the netbook?
2. If not, why?
3. If so, how?

I've searched the web for a while with no luck. If this question has been asked before, please link me to the answer(s).

Thank you for your time!

Yes!

First let me say hi and welcome here Smile

Second, you are posting a question about firefox so the firefox forum is the right place!

Regarding your question:

Almost all Apps from here can be run under Xandros/Linux if you install wine first.

Wine is a program that lets you run windows programs under Linux.

I don't know what package management system Xandros uses so I cant tell you exactly what to do, but if you google for "Xandros and wine" you'll most likely find a heap of useful info.

Hope that helps!

Searched

I pulled this up: http://wiki.jswindle.com/index.php/Xandros
Also, if you are looking for native Linux Portable Apps, try this site: http://www.portools.com/
I sorta wish the guy would keep going with it.

Thank you digitxp...

for the links! I have never come across these links in the hours and hours (and I do mean hours!:() I've used searching for what I want. I'm glad I found this website. If only I had found it sooner! Sounds like I better stick to this website than portools. Wink

On a serious note, I download wine on the usb and then download the firefox apps that I want?

nope

You have to install wine to your linux PC then plug in your usb stick and run Firefox.

WOW! I Didn't Know...

Xandros has a website?! A forum?! Shock

Thanks for the info and the time you and Digitxp put into helping me, that saved me A LOT of time! I would have never guessed to google both "xandros and wine".

I have learned quite a bit since joining and I hope to learn a whole lot more because confused newbies usually do! Pardon
