Excluded folders still appear in destination, although empty

I'm a total newbie, but I love Toucan. However, with the new release, I'm having trouble - I have a lot of folders in My Documents, but I only want a few of them on one of my flash drives. I set up the folders to exclude in my Rules (right clicked them from My Documents, in Source). Yes, only the folders I wanted were copied with files in, but all the other excluded folders were copied, although they are empty. How can I show only the desired folder names on my flash drive, rather than having dozens of empty folders? Also, is there some kind of tutorial for using scripts, rules, etc? Thanks!

Did

this work fine with the previous version? If so it will be easier to trace, it definitely shouldn't be happening though! There are a couple of scripts / rules examples in the included help file, I am not putting too much effort in to them as a rewrite of the script stuff is currently under-way.

Hi Steve! Yes, it works fine

Hi Steve! Yes, it works fine in version 2.0.3, which I'm still using on another flash drive. I made up a test and tried it on the older version, and also 2.2.1. Used update function, on a folder with 4 folders inside. Used rules to exclude 2 of the folders. In 2.0.3 - preview showed only desired folders in destination, in blue. Ran it, and it was fine - only the desired 2 folders appeared on the flash drive. However, same parameters using 2.2.1 - in preview, all 4 folders showed in destination. Desired ones showed blue, ones to be excluded in red. Ran the update (much faster than 2.0.3, by the way). On the flash drive, all four folders showed. The two I wanted excluded were empty. Seems like there is definitely a glitch there! I suppose I could figure a way around it, by just creating update jobs for individual folders, but it's nice to be able to just run one update.

I

shall take another look then, I don't remember really changing anything between the release that would break this, thanks for the report though!

I

am afraid I cannot reproduce this, could you give me some exact steps to reproduce? I.e. starting right from the start with creating new folders and files to test it with and specifying what sort of rules you are using etc. Thanks again.

I just performed the

I just performed the following steps, to double check and make sure I hadn't done anything differently. Got exactly the same results as before.

1. Installed Toucan 2.2.1 on Kingston 4GB Flash Drive.
2. 2. In Sync, created new job Test 1 (update; retain timestamps, retain attributes, ignore daylight savings).
3. In Rules, created new name Test 1, saved it.
4. For source, selected a fairly small folder with 4 subfolders, one document.
5. Right clicked on 2 of them, exclude by name. Checked in Rules to see if they’re there; they show as "folders to exclude. Saved Rules again. Saved Sync job again.
6. For destination, created a folder named Test 1. Set it as destination.
7. Clicked preview. As before, ALL folders in destination are shown. The excluded folders are shown red, the included ones blue. (In previous version 2.0.3, the excluded folders didn't show at all.)
8. Ran job.
9. Used Explore to check contents of Flash Drive. In folder Test 1, all 4 folders of the original folder show up, also the 1 document. However, the folders I wanted excluded are empty. The two I included have all documents intact.
10. This was a brand new flash drive, first time I installed 2.2.1 on it.

Hope that helps, Steve!

Just wanted to mention that I

Just wanted to mention that I also have seen this problem. The excluded folder shows up in the backup destination. The excluded folder is empty, but my understanding is that the folder should not show up in the destination at all.

I also just wanted to thank you for an outstanding product... I have been looking for a backup program for use with my portable hard drive for a few years now and they all were lacking in one way or another. Toucan has every feature that I could have wanted.
