Should be automatic

It should be picked up automatically if Windows Media Player is installed locally, otherwise it won't get it. (I'm not entirely certain though.)

Try it.

Problem I have is I'm trying

Problem I have is I'm trying to run it under vista, where I don't have admin rights.

I've done this with spotify. I can't install it locally, but I can run it off my stick.

I'm trying to access MUTV online, but keep getting prompted for the plugin. I can't install it locally so was trying to put it in my stick and get around it that way.

Unfortunately not very useful on portable firefox.

Chris Morgan is right. You'll only have that plugin if the MediaPlayer is installed on the local computer.

Something similar has happened to Flash Player and Shockwave. As far as I know it has always been impossible to install Shockwave portably and now I can't install Flash Player portable either. It is complaining about a missing install script.

See this too: https://portableapps.com/node/21826

And there are more useful plugins you can't install in a portable environment.
It looks like as if portable versions of Firefox are declared non-existant by all major vendors.

For your problem there is a however a sub-optimal solution. If you install the Mediaconnectivity add-on, you don't need that Media Player plugin. This has some drawbacks that are really annoying:
1) The add-on isn't updated for a very long time, so you need to force-install it otherwise it is rejected as being old-fashioned.
2) If you are on a different computer you'll need to redefine all paths used by the add-on.

Anyway, good luck!
