High memory usage with Internet Explorer when visiting PortableApps.com

Hi, guys.

I'm using Internet Explorer 8 and when I visit PortableApps.com the RAM it uses is more than 350 MB. This does not occur when I use Firefox (it uses less than 100 MB). The high memory usage only occurs when I visit this site. I've tested it with two other PCs and the behavior is the same.

I just opened IE8 and visited the site and the memory usage was 25MB.

I just tried it with IE8 x32

I just tried it with IE8 x32 and x64 on Win7 Ultimate x64 and aside from a starting RAM of between 40 and 50MB, this site didn't increase memory usage at all. I gained 1MB from both by going to the site, which can be chalked up to caching and prefetching.

Problem solved

Hi again, guys.

I finally figured out what was causing the high memory usage. It was because of Ad Muncher, I added https://portableapps.com/ to its ignore list and now IE uses less than 50M of RAM.

Thanks for your answers.

Lesson learned: Everyone

Lesson learned: Everyone should add PortableApps.com to their ad blocking software's "whitelist". That's how this site gets paid for.

Bad Extension

In that case, it sounds like a malfunctioning extension since the only ad we have on the site is a small 2-panel vertical google ad in the lower left of the page. It shouldn't take 450mb to block it.

On a related note, as mentioned, it would be nice for folks not to block it so that they may see an ad of interest and click on it occasionally to help pay the hosting bills. We don't do any graphical or animated ads, only text.
