Lightscreen Win32 build help?

Hi all,
I'm trying to build the lightscreen portable app from the source code, but I don't know what libraries, environment variables, build settings, etc. I need to use. I'm planning on using Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition, but I also have VB .NET from when I was in school so I could install that as well(assuming it will even work with Windows 7). I'm open to something else if there is something that is easier with a minimal learning curve and somebody to tell me the appropriate settings.

All this is because I can't stand the date format. I want yyyy-mm-dd not dd-mm-yyyy because my way is obviously the way to get them to sort correctly by name.
