Maintaining 3.0.X branch

Hi.

I am the one that asked for 3.0.15 release and now I'm doing the same with 3.0.16 hehe.

I really want to update, but some addons will be disable if I do it. For example, I have SwitchProxy and despite here says it's compatible with 3.5, it really screws up my Firefox. It's not my fault, as I have read in Bugzilla website.

On the other hand I know 3.0 support will be ended soon, tough here seems that It's planned two more versions of 3.0 branch (till 3.0.18 which I'm sure it will be the last one).

So, ¿will you release more versions of Firefox Portable 3.0? I'm not sure about leting Firefox auto-update itself.

Thanks in advance.

Update

I can post an update in a few days if there is interest.

Any extensions not updated by now probably won't be and should be replaced or disabled. SwitchProxy sounds like a bug in the extension and should be reported to the extension author.

The official end of life time for any Firefox release is supposed to be 6 months from the time of the next version. That would mean December 30, 2009 as the end of life for FF3 as 3.5 was released on June 30, 2009. So, while 3.0.18 is listed as scheduled for February, I don't know that it's a definite as Firefox 3's end of life in terms of Mozilla's overall policies is in 7 days.

Upgrading to Firefox Portable 3.5.x is *HIGHLY* recommended as 3.5 has much better performance from removable media and has an improved portable launcher (3.0's is not being further enhanced).

And Firefox 3.6 is just around the corner.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Interested in v3.0.16

@John T. Haller: I can post an update in a few days if there is interest.

I, too, have been waiting for the update to v3.0.16.

I had tried FF 3.5, and could not notice any performance improvements, when running it from local HDD. (Have not tested it on a flash drive, though.)

Nevertheless, I am going to make the switch with the coming v3.6, eventually. I'm quite sure.

SwitchProxy

What is SwitchProxy? Does it just turn your proxy on/off with the click of a button? I use QuickProxy for that. I stayed with Fx 3.0.x because it didn't update right away, then tried FoxyProxy (not what I wanted) and by the time I sucked it up and moved to 3.5.x, QuickProxy had been updated.

That's the Darwinism of extensions. The good ones will get updated for the next Fx release. If they don't get updated... do you really want an extension that the author doesn't care enough about to keep current?

Some things should just work through multiple versions, but they don't, so they have to be updated. It could be a quick, minor update or it could require some code rewrite, but it can't be nearly as daunting as writing the extension to start with.
