Is there a (free) way to have the USB drive with my PortableApps install automatically synchronize folders when it is inserted into my home computer?
I know that Toucan could do this with an autorun script, but this would not work with newer OS's like Windows 7. I also know that SyncBack SE can do this, but it coasts $30 or so.
Is there free a program I could install on my home computer to accomplish this sync when a particular USB drive is inserted?
Thanks,
Ari
I use Free File Sync.
If you know how to write a batch (or other scripting language) script, you could either put it on your flash and choose to sync it on autoplay, or you could run it on your computer, set to check if the drive is there, and if it is, sync it (the bonus with this is that the script doesn't have to figure out which computer it's on).
Good luck!
Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.
A batch or autorun script on the USB drive would not run in Win7 like it would in Vista or XP.
One on the computer would have to loop and check every second or so, if I were to write it in AutoIT or something like that. I could use this script to detect the USB drive insert, then have it run a sync tool from the command line.
Is there a free tool out there that will just do this?
Or can I add my own program to the autoplay handler in Win7 for USB drives?
You can add your own AutoPlay handler in Vista/Win7:

Thanks for replying with the info about adding an autoplay handler to Win7. I guess this is the route I have to go down.
Still wish there was a free program that could run on the computer and sync the USB drive on insert to my computer.
