I can;t seem to get firefox, skype or thunderbird to run on my company laptop.
I'm assuming its to do with corporate firewall protection.
Any ways of overcoming this issue?
Thanks.

It's probably a proxy. To figure out the settings, use this:

Firefox is now working, using the proxy settings.
I still can't get Thunderbird to connect to my (non-work) email account.
Any ideas or is this a lost cause?
Thanks,
Douglas.
You're being blocked by your corporate firewall. Many companies block incoming and outgoing mail connections. Your ISP may have an alternate POP/IMAP/SMTP port that may not be blocked by your company. Check with your ISP.
