New to Portable Apps

I have done quite a bit of searching and am just frustrated at this point.
This may be a silly question.
So how do I get the firefox icon to appear in the PA Launcher?
I installed the pa launcher
then dled the firefox portable
Ran the Exe
the icon is on the drive in the firefox directory
I have tried putting the icon in the launchers sub directories and still does not appear.

any advice would be appreciated.

end result is i would like to know how to get the icons to appear in the left hand window pane in the launcher window the they appear when you dl the full suite pa launcher

Location, location, location

Firefox Portable is not being installed in the correct location.
If you installed the PortableApps menu (or as you call it, the PA Launcher) on your hard drive in a subfolder, that could be causing some issues, but there is an easy way to make sure things get installed to the correct place: Install the app using the menu.

Here's the deal. Open the PortableApps Menu. On the right hand side you see Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, Explore, Backup, Options, Search, Help, right?
Click on Options, and choose "Install a New App", and in the window that opens, browse to the installer for Firefox Portable. Follow the defaults and bing bang boom, it should automatically install in the correct place.

Use this method for all the paf.exe installers you get from this site, and you are good to go.

Hey thanks, lol...So the problem was that the firefox portable i downloaded was renamed.

the original goes like this:
FirefoxPortable_3.5.6_English.u3p.paf.exe
the renamed was:
FirefoxPortable_.exe

so without the paf extension it will not install via the Portable Apps pa launcher Wink

thank you for your assistance! The Pa Launcher is great!
Could have password option though.

Installer .exe name don't matter

The name of the installer .exe doesn't matter. I used to rename them. I don't anymore, but it doesn't matter.

Your flash drive should look like the following. Maybe it's got more folders, doesn't matter. You should at least have:

+ DOCUMENTS
+ PORTABLEAPPS
StartPortableApps.exe
autorun.inf

That's what you get when you install the PortableApps.com Platform.

If you install Firefox Portable, doesn't matter what order (Platform then Firefox, or Firefox then Platform) if you go into PORTABLEAPPS you should see the following:

+ FIREFOXPORTABLE
+ PORTABLEAPPS.COM

And possibly some other stuff. Inside FirefoxPortable, you should see:

+ APP
+ DATA
+ OTHER
FirefoxPortable.exe

and maybe another file. DATA might not be there if you never ran it.

If all that's right, "Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition" should be in your menu.

If folders aren't right, get 'em right.

Once folders are right, go to the Platform, restart it -- or go to Options, then Refresh App Icons.

The file must have a .paf.exe extension

If you use the Install a new App option from the platform, the dialog box will only allow you to select Files of Type PortableApps.com Format (*.paf.exe). It will not show just *.exe files.

As for the renaming, some download accelerators allow you to set up renaming filters that persist. I use DTA and I've accidentally renamed installers.

What?

Where did you get this file you tried to install?

It sounds like you got it from one of those "other" sites.
