Skype Portable 4.1 : Am I right or am I wrong?

Hello,

Belated, best wishes to all of you for 2010!!

Rushing in from holidays I would like to ask your advice for skype portable_4.1.
Well, the command line seems to me secure:

F:\PortableApps\SkypePortable\App\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /datapath:"F:\PortableApps\SkypePortable\Data\settings" /removable

So, assuming that there isn't left any trace on a host computer, am I right or am I wrong??

Any help would be highly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Greetings,

skypeportable.exe?

why dont you just launch the skypeportable.exe?

Often is is not advisable to launch the executables directly, the launchers take care of it automatically.

Not sure what was your question exactly.

Skype Portable 4.1 : my basic concern

Hello ottosykora,

Many thanks for writing in! Sorry, I wasn't perfectly clear the post before!
I ran the MS Process Explorer to get an idea of skype portable's command line.
Here we are:

F:\PortableApps\SkypePortable\App\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /datapath:"F:\PortableApps\SkypePortable\Data\settings" /removable

/removable shows to me, there won't be left any trace on a host computer. Well, that's theory. But, what about practice? As long as user dates won't be left on a third party computer, it doesn't matter to me. Supposing that it wouldn't be the case... Say, that's my basic concern.

Thank you for your time!

See you,

check with regshot

Well, if you have this portable skype from this site here, the guys here know quite lot abt how to avoid storing personal data on the host computer. Those programs are tested first by number of people, regshot is a software used for testing if the program still writes something to the host and registry, respective what does it write where. If all such tests are ok, then there is release. (Publishers: correct me if I am wrong at some point here Wink )

So I think you can take it as it does not write anything to the host. The /removable might be a switch for the skype, if it does all the job I don't know myself. Often little bit more is needed to make software portable in a sense it is used here.

Check with regshot

Hello ottosykora,

Thank you for your quick response which helped me a lot! Yes, I've got portable skype from here.
I didn't know about regshot. But I think it is a good idea for cases like this one. Thank you for your tip!

See you,

personal data is not left.

personal data is not left. You will always leave behind traces. There is nothing you can do about it. Its the way windows works.

Too many lonely hearts in the real world
Too many bridges you can burn
Too many tables you can't turn
Don't wanna live my life in the real world

personal data is not left

Hello Oliver,

Thank you very much for your hint! Good to know that personal data won't be left!
Traces..., as far as that goes: ccleaner for instance might be a solution?
Thank you for your time!

Windows always keeps a list

Windows always keeps a list of recently an programs and the like. Running CCleaner can only clean chunks of information at once, and you probably don't want to delete such data from someone else's computer, especially considering the data is very generic and doesn't contain any private information.
