For those who are upgrading Firefox Portable to 3.6 RC 1, I thought I should give you the following notes.
1) Disable All-in-One Sidebar (AiOS) before upgrading, if you have this installed -- This add-on will cause a major visual malfunction & render 3.6 RC 1 inoperable.
2) Install Add-on Compatibility Reporter( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 ) -- This will allow you to enable add-ons that aren't originally supported for 3.6 RC 1 & lets you submit report for those so you can help the add-on developers as well as other users.
With that said... enjoy Firefox Portable 3.6 RC 1!
there is an RC available from the AiOS developers website http://firefox.exxile.net/aios/ ... full release via mozilla add ons site will come soon but for those happy with betas & release candidates the RC1 version works perfectly for me
Thanks for giving me a heads up on the RC version of AiOS, it's working just fine now. The stable version just messes up Firefox Portable 3.6 RC1 so badly that I had to downgrade just to disable it.
The Add-on Compatibility Reporter is one way, albeit experimental, to test out add-ons that aren't designed for Firefox 3.6 RC 1. While some add-ons will cause problems or have unwanted side-effects, some add-ons will work just fine. My thought is that since you're already using an experimental version of the browser, why experiment with the add-ons as well?
As Mr. Haller has already mentioned... DO SO AT YOUR OWN RISK!

I always use the Mr Tech Toolkit. (I know, at own risk.) Does the Compatibility Reporter offer any advantages?
I am not my signature.
The Compatibility Reporter (developed by Mozilla) is pretty basic. It allow you to enable unsupported add-ons & then file a report if it works the same or not.
If it doesn't work, you can write what's not working or what's going on so the add-on developers can get to work on it.
If you report that it works, they can just do a "compatibility update" (essentially fudge the version numbers) for others.
If you're using something a bit more advanced that you're happy with, go ahead & stick with it.

I just got the note that AiOS has been upgraded, so you don't need to use the RC version any more.

AiOS's official release is marked as *incompatible* with 3.6, so the only way it would come up is if you forced compatibility, which is a bad idea, and outside the normal upgrade process. They have a RC that does work with 3.6, but it's a test version.
