I get the error 4 times. I have 4 empty removable drives shown in explorer (my 4 empty card reader slots). Maybe there is a relation and it creates the error because its checking if it can read from the drives?
Do you have the same?
I am on XP SP 3 btw.

That's probably the issue. It has affected other apps, too. GIMP had an issue with this for about 2 years if I recall correctly.

I confess: Total Commander is the only non free software I somehow still resort myself to. I know Xenon resembles very much to Windows Explorer but it is also intended to replace my Total Commander?
What I don't like about it is that in Folders view I can't see the files in a directory, and I also can't use keyboard shortcuts to copy, delete and move items.
Any idea how I shall make this kind of file manager my own?
If you like Total Commander you may wish to try Free Commander (great!) or Ultra Explorer (a little buggy on Vista x64 for me). Xenon was fine but these automatically integrated with all the right clicking that I do in Windows and made my workflow a little easier. However I use them exclusively as portable apps from a hard drive so Xenon may be much more useful for portable file associations.
Add my vote for FreeCommander. Excellent tool with awesome capabilities and very few detractions.
It does Ctrl-C, Ctrl-P, and Ctrl-X just fine, and is capable of mapping custom keystrokes and changing default actions based on the file's extension.
You can use it as a double-pane explorer, with tabs in each if you want, and even add tree-view in each.
You can get FreeCommanderPortable from this site, or use FreeCommander downloaded from the author's site (seek out the "more downloads" to find "other builds" and get the zip file).

FreeCommander is great, but it has one killer defect: it doesn't support custom file associations without a tool like eXpresso. Xenon does support custom associations, which is why it just replaced FC on my flash drive.

Tried it for a couple of days, and I didn't think it was a very mature product (read: too many glitches and gotchas).
That one association feature wasn't enough to convince me.
Besides, FreeCommander does have F3 and F4 custom associations.
I suppose personal choice is why there's more than one file manager replacement out there, eh?

The only glitch I've found as of yet is the language - it's written in AutoHotKey, which is notorious for triggering AV products.
I was actually getting ready to use Xenon in one of my own apps, but quickly backed off when I realized what it was written in.
FreeCommander's custom associations aren't easy to use at all, or I'd go back. Double-clicking = no custom association, ENTER = no custom association, and I don't feel like trying to learn two ways of doing the same thing on different file browsers.
As you said, it's a personal choice.

same i am using an old version of Xenon portable from this webby and it doesnt go to the computer root aswell. i think its a typo in a config setting or a missing file. btw i am running it on vista basic
i recon you need to run it as an admin. hope this helps
FreeCommander is just plain ugly. That's an important one!
TotalCommander shows file deletion, copying, moving in int internal way, which gives me a feeling about the actual task done, FreeCommander does not show anything for deletion and shows Windows' default pop-up for copying.
