Secondary Profile Support for Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition (Beta 1)

Application: Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition 2nd Profile
Category: Internet
Description: This app allows you to setup a second profile for Mozilla Firefox, Portable Edition. Just install it to the same parent directory as Firefox Portable (usually X:\PortableApps\ where you'll then have FirefoxPortable and FirefoxPortable2ndProfile directories) and run it. You can install multiple copies of this app to get a 3rd, 4th, etc profile as well. The app is independent of the version of Firefox Portable installed.

Provided the test goes well, I'll post this as well as launchers for Thunderbird and Sunbird as well.

Well done

Well done John,
I won't use a second profile myself but I heard a few people ask for this feature.

It works :)

Well, it does...

I probably wont use another profile though...

For some reason I thought it was capable of switching profiles on the fly, but I guess that was me dreaming...I don't even know if that is possible...

Nope

That's not possible with any version of Firefox.

Desired features, especially AllowMultipleInstances

Here's some things that I'd love to see added:

* Critical: Firefox Portable launcher .ini support, specifically for AllowMultipleInstances. Right now it's not possible to launch instances in parallel, e.g. one window as a normal instance (AMI=false, so it intercepts system Firefox requests too) and one that uses Tor (AMI=true, so isolated).

* Would be nice: Ability to set the Name= of the appinfo.ini at install time so that the name is customizable in the PA.c menu.

* Extra bonus: if the install directory name is changed, rename the .exe to match the directory name. Smile

No Multiple, Just Rename

You can't do multiple instances because Firefox itself can only run one profile at a time. If you need to do this, you must install two instances of the full Firefox Portable.

You can just rename it in the menu with a quick right-click, so there's no need to do it in appinfo.ini.

Same with the directory name, you're free to rename it yourself.

Is this because FF is

Is this because FF is matching the running process by directory to firefox.exe? I was thinking more like "same binaries from App/, different -profile switch".

(I probably don't understand what AllowMultipleInstances=true is doing to make the parallelism work, so never mind.)

Awesome

Awesome, thank you. This will save some time at home as I currently manage two whole copies of Firefox (plus the one on the flash drive).
