I just downloaded and installed Google Chrome Portable on my USB drive, using the default path. At work, I was not allowed to set the proxy server to connect to the net (I'm able to make such changes in Firefox Portable); we're using Vista Enterprise there, and got a message saying that I needed to be an administrator to change the proxy settings. So I tried setting it on my home PC instead (Windows XP, using an admin account), and found that it changed the proxy for my locally installed copy of Chrome as well.
Is Chrome really "portable"? I thought the idea was that the configuration settings would be stored on the portable device, not the local hard disk.
Thanks,
Mike
Unlike Firefox, Chrome works with the operating system's proxy settings - the same as Internet Explorer and the rest of the operating system uses by default. So in changing your proxy, that changes the system proxy. There's nothing we can do about that at all.

Hm. That being the case, I would have thought Chrome would work "out of the box", since the OS proxy is already set for IE, etc. But I can't get anywhere with Chrome, whereas I can with IE and such.
