Doanload and Install All Apps

I am one of those that like to have almost "everything" loaded. When it comes to PortableApps, this can take a while. I start with the suite, then download every app I'm interested in individually, then have to install them individually. I may have missed it, but is there a way to bundle all of the apps and create a single installer based off of a checklist? Something like http://www.ninite.com

Thanks in advance for any help!

Soon (with hope)

John's been promising an updater (with built in checklist installing) for a while, hasn't come out yet. Until then, the best solution as of today is to back up ;-).

Insert original signature here with Greasemonkey Script.

The portability movement is only just beginning.

Eventually there will be so much that having everything could become impractical.

I'm sure this goes without saying but...

Obviously you don't want everything though because some applications serve the same purpose, like Pidgin and Miranda for example. How many IM clients do you need? Same goes for WinSCP and Filezilla, although slightly different, they basically serve the same purpose. Then there's VLC and MPlayer... and this is to mention nothing of portable browsers of which you have the choice of at least 3 stable ones and probably a couple of more development test browsers (e.g. K-Meleon). The list goes on...

Some discrimination/discernment doesn't go amiss. Wink

True - Shovelware

Quite true. We don't want to have the main PA.c Suite become a suite of shovelware where we include 3 IM clients, 4 browsers, 27 random under 1MB utilities you'll never use, etc.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Options are good

I don't think anyone is saying you shouldn't have options.. just that you shouldn't want/need to have two IM clients installed at the same time. Wink

Not necessarily

I've got two copies of this or that installed, and IMHO it's frequently useful. For example, I've got 9 (yes, 9) portable browsers, and I use them all on occasion.
* Firefox Portable - normal web browsing
* Firefox Portable (web development) - all kinds of web development addons installed
* Firefox Portable (malware analysis) - more for page tracing than anything else, but still useful when I'm trying to get a loaded site taken down.
* Google Chrome - Due to the privacy issues, I don't use this for web browsing. I still need it for web development, though.
* Google Chrome (beta) - ^^
* Iron - I use it when Firefox won't load a page because NoScript and/or CS Lite bit too hard
* GNU Icecat - don't use it very often, mostly for web development
* OperaUSB - the only browser that Sandboxie can open (ContentWatch is giving me grief again), which is important when I'm trying to run browser malware to see what it does
* OperaTor - I rarely use this, but I sometimes don't have a choice (e.g. some malware-infested sites record visitor IP addresses, and block each IP after a certain number of visits - generally one - to prevent security researchers from doing anything)

I also use three different project management programs (DevProject, ToDoList, and Task Coach); I still haven't settled on one, but I'll probably get rid of the others once I do.

Am I a typical guy? No way - I'm weird as can be. But you get what I'm trying to say about multiple installs...

WTF?

What are you talking about Sandboxie not being able to run any other Portable browser except OperaUSB??? I'm running a FFP through Sandboxie right now, WITH ADD-ONS which work without any problems! NoScript, CookieSafe (full version, not Lite), Ghostery, AdBlock Plus........ Everything works under Sandboxie (the free, unregistered version)!

Don't get me the wrong way, but it sounds like nonsense... If you are referring to ContentWatch disabling the Internet access to any other Portable web browser ran through Sandboxie except for OperaUSB, than either something's wrong with your installation of ContentWatch or I don't know what else. AFAIK, ContentWatch blocks access to certain Internet content - not certain browsers! It's not browser specific but rather browser universal...

Maybe I didn't understand your post correctly? Pardon

And as for the part about multiple versions of the same task-performing applications, I agree with computerfreaker. It's nice to have different apps for different jobs. Of course, I'm not talking about 2 versions of "big software" like Office Suits (why not if they are different), but rather IM clients, web-browsers, media players...AV and anti-spy programs... all kinds of system utilities and programs... If you stick to only one of the latter, then you're most likely done for (no single software piece is so good that it doesn't need a companion to double-check it's work and give you a second opinion). Different IM clients and web-browsers are useful either for web developers, or even any normal user you wishes to separate different kinds of web behavior. Use one for friends and relatives, social sites, places where you are logged on and don't hide your identity, and use another for rest of the cases.

Viva la 2 versions of IM clients (among others) Biggrin Blum Smile

EDIT:

I use it when Firefox won't load a page because NoScript and/or CS Lite bit too hard

Ha ha ha, I thought I was the only one with that problem Smile Blum Somehow, I got the balance just about right for the pages I often visit Smile It mostly happened to me while I was trying to block Google.com as a whole, but still being able to login and use Gmail Smile And I got it working like that! It's just a superb thing to see as Google is not associating my browsing with my account Blum (Did the same on Yahoo as well, and it works)

My posts are old and likely no longer relevant.

hmm, you're right. Took about 10 minutes to load my FFP (by contrast, running FFP outside a sandbox takes less than a minute) with half-a-dozen ContentWatch errors, but it did work eventually.
I know ContentWatch doesn't disable Internet access; I thought one of the ContentWatch system hooks was interfering with a Sandboxie system hook, which seems to happen pretty often.

Yeah, I have the balance perfect for my usual sites, but when somebody sends me a file via MediaFire, I have to take *all* the protections down - blasted ad hog. Even then it sometimes doesn't work.
A couple of other sites have similar issues, but MediaFire is the worst.

You may want to replace OperaTor.

Not working

Just tried the browser bundle, and it doesn't work - it crashes on startup.

Thanks anyway!

That is surprising.

Is it crashing out of the box? It should never crash.

This isn't the place to discuss it. You can talk about it on #tor on irc.oftc.net .

Yeah, fresh out of the box.

Thanks for the IRC chan; I tried getting some help in IRC awhile back, but the chan I found (on Freenode, IIRC) was nearly deserted and I left after 2-3 hours with no reply. I'll try again, and hopefully this time it'll work.

Freenode is not the right place.

Anzway, try it on another computer. Your computer might have some really bad stuff on it.

Yeah, after some discussion

Yeah, after some discussion with one of the Tor devs, it turned out ContentWatch was the problem - it's injecting several DLL files into every internet-facing process, and whatever those DLL's do is apparently enough to take down Tor.
Anyway, thanks for the help!

ROFL!
I use Firefox every day of the week, except when I need something special from one of the others.
Firefox ftw!

(And don't try to get rid of my weirdness - I like it! Blum )

We really should stop hijacking this thread...
