Firefox portable startup crashes on winxp with asycfilt.dll error
However firefox.exe in the subfolder works properly without the profiles.

This is a built-in Windows DLL, related to OLE/COM. If you're getting a crash here, something is borked with your machine's configuration. The post you linked to above says the problem mysteriously fixed itself, likely related to an automatic update. Have you tried running Windows Update to see if that fixes it?
