Could Not Use Flash Drive in Public Library

I visited a well-known college town's brand new, huge public library last week. I signed on as a guest and just happened to have all three of my drives with me--U3,
Ceedo, and a Haller equipped one.

I was very disappointed when the PC would not let me run the U3 or the Ceedo drive
because they both have auto-run which their security will not allow. Then I inserted
the Haller equipped drive and nearly blew a gasket when Firefox could not open because its launcher is an exe. file which security does not permit either.

I spoke with the supervisor and she said their IT people would be informed of the difficulty and maybe something could be done about it. Has this happened to others in this group? Does it mean that the flash drive cannot be used except at friends'
houses because the world we live in is being forced to clamp down on security until
nothing scarcely can be viewed or done on a public PC.

I had already decided that I don't need or want Ceedo, Sticky Drive, or probably U3
in the future. I like the plain drives better because I create the environment myself(with John Haller's help of course)and I am not limited as to what I can record
on the drive.

What does my experience mean for using flash drives in public places when one travels?

...

Contrary what you might think, not every public/business computer is locked down to the point of uselessness. Most people here have been able to use the portable apps with little to no issues on a work computer.

Re: Use of Public Computers

I knew about work PCs although in bigger institutions they too have severe levels of
security. I am retired and if I don't want to take my laptop, I'm wondering if
public PC use will all but be prohibited when a person travels.

Typically, the only time

Typically, the only time you'll see removable drive lockouts is when they've had a virus or similar problem with them. These places have to be extremely careful with who is allowed to execute a program from a removable drive. Adware or a virus could shut them down for a long time, especially if the entire network becomes infected.

Windows by default doesn't allow autorun from removable drives. Back in the day, a person would insert a virus-infected floppy into a computer of someone they didn't like. 5 seconds in and out, and the comp would be infected.

yeah my college will let me

yeah my college will let me bring in my usb stick but public libraries are useless for anything unless you want to play single-player Flash games, in which case, they actually work pretty good.
