Hello.
Some days ago I installed Open Office portable. It was the 3.1.1 version if I'm right.
I installed it using Total Uninstall freeware version (2.35). I always monitor installations with it. And I found that even portable apps make a few little modifies in the Registry of Windows.
Now 3.2.0 Portable Open Office has been released and I'd like to upgrade it.
But how to proceed?
1) simply delete the folder and install the new one?
2) make a kind of "upgrade" installation? If so, how?
3) completely uninstall the older Open Office using Total Uninstall, and then install the new Open Office?
Finally:
4) is there a way to backup its settings, in order to keep them in the new one?
Thanks a lot!
PS: I put this message in the General Discussion, because I mean this question on every portable apps software (I saw that the small installation process is similar for any portableapps.com software), not only Open Office... I hope I chose the right section...
You do an in-place upgrade by installing it right over the old one. It preserves all settings and add-ons. It's part of the PortableApps.com Format, all apps support this.
You don't need to use Total Uninstall. Any registry entries are either temporary (only while it is running) or added by Windows itself (over which we have no control).
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
thanks for the prompt reply!
I wasted lots of time installing each portable app. through Total Uninstall....
I'm glad to tell you: congratulations! PortableApps.com is one of the most useful things ever made for Windows users!
I use PC since 17 years, and I can tell that it has lots of positive points and no negative ones.
It is what I was looking for. I can use applications without make Windows heavy... keeping the system clean.
I'm sure that it is the result of an extremely hard, patient and scrupulous
work. Thanks so much!
