It would be useful if the portableapps platform could download and update apps itself. The apps should be digitally signed, and the platform app would download and verify the signature. It would be desirable if multiple versions of the same app could be installed, so new versions could be tested somewhat safely.

It would be useful if the portableapps platform could bootstrap a portableapps development environment. It would download the requisite software, libraries, etc, and have the links to the SCM(s) preconfigured.

The so called updater functionality is planned for the next platform release.
As for the dev environment: Its just the 2 Apps (Compactor and InstallerCreator) you can download.

Chris and John are developing a launcher that does a lot of the heavy lifting. That makes 3 development apps.
