Adding a 2X-Terminal Server Connection

In our company we use Windows Clients which are accessed via RDP.
Now i wanted to get connection via the 2X-Client. As the help-screen tells me i have to add a new Terminal Server Connection by pressing "add a new Terminal Server Connection" in the "File"-menu. But there is no such entry. I was trying Version 8.0.827 from the portableapps-page as well as Version 7.3.768 from the applicaten-page (the portable apps version). Neither had the needed entry. What did i wrong ?!

Help is appreciated

thanks in advance
Stefan

Admin Rights

It appears that 2X's RDP features require you to be logged in as an admin on the current PC, which makes the feature a bit less useful. I've updated the app's homepage to indicate this.

Hey John,

thanks for your immediate answer.

I've simply installed the 2X-Client on my private PC and copied the whole application to my office PC (with installed sessions). If i try to open the Terminal Server Session it tells me "the MsRDP activeX-element couldn't be initialized (hr=0x80070057). Please check the connectionproperties" (i've translated the german error message, hope the english is the same). Does this help to make this fine application work without admin-access ?

It's a little annoying to me, that some (or more ?) portable apps aren't really portable as they need root access (the same problem was with GnuCash). Hence they shouldn't be claimed "portable apps" as they aren't in fact.

Not Really

I've already got a note into 2X about it. It simply may not be possible without it.

Some apps require admin access for some functionality. 2X is an example. But it'll work fine with 2X connections without admin access. GnuCash is another. The whole app works just fine even on a guest account, just not online banking access (which I personally never use anyway, nor do many others). JkDefrag is another, as it's impossible to defrag a disk in Windows without admin rights.

Hey John,

i guess a lot of users use the application for getting access via RDP Connection. So it would be very helpful if this would be possible without admin rights. Of course on private PCs it should be no problem to use the app. But in my opinion it is not sense of a portable app to have admin rights on a pc. I assume it the big benefit of a portable app to use it on every pc without gaining admin rights. But i understand if, in this case, it isn't possible due to restrictions from Microsoft with ActiveX-Controls. In fact i would be very glad if this would work nevertheless.

I wasn't able to install GnuCash due to missing admin rights. But i must admit i didn't try it for many month. Perhaps the new release can solve my problem. Banking access is of no need to me.

Thanks in advance to your efforts. Keep on developing so nive and helpful apps like 2X

2X itself

The requirement of running as admin is something required by 2X itself with the way it does things, like with GnuCash. If you want to use those particular features (a particular form of internet banking with GnuCash - everything else works fine without admin) you'll need to run as admin.
