PortableApps on U3

I know it's not the best place to ask this, but is it possible somehow to delete the original U3 software from my U3 Cruzer (16GB) and install the PortableApps framework to it's place? I mean that little CD-like partition what makes U3 start up at insert.

Is it possible somehow?

yes/maybe

There are some utilities here but some of them are outdated and may not work anymore.

Saw it

Yea, I know about them, I just wanted to have another way.
I was thinking about a modified PortableApps Suite, what is totally installed to the CD drive, but runs applications located on the real USB drive (a.k.a. the U3Main).

I will take a look at the source, maybe there is an option somewhere Biggrin

ok

There are no such options for the PortableApps.com Suite. Besides that it has to be run from a writable partition in order to work right and save its settings. I think the only way is to have the Suite on the normal partition and have it autostart by the cd partition (there is an option for that built in Smithtechs launcher.

Yes, I was thinking about it,

Yes, I was thinking about it, modifying the source of the PortableApps suite to load and save applications, settings, documents, and all other stuff to the U3Main, but load itself from the U3Disk part...

Replace U3 with PortableApps?

My impression from the original post is that the intention is to replace U3 with PortableApps. I have done this on a number of Sandisk U3 Cruzer sticks simply by reformatting the stick and then installing PortableApps in the normal manner. Formatting erases the entire stick so you are starting off clean.
Right click on your stick in Windows Explorer and select format.

to keep the fake cd/drive aspect ...

of the U3. At least that is what I think the original poster wanted, I guess for the "security" it sorta gives.
