Planting an App

I don't know if this is something you might be interested in, but here goes anyways...

So say you are like me and have no computer of your own, this is the main reason you are using portable apps. Now what if you finally get your own computer, but don't want to redo all your bookmarks and what not...you would have to copy and paste the profile for firefox. However, what about other apps? What do you do with them? Perhaps an app to take your current application and integrate it into the system would be really nice. Planting it if you will. So I could just click something (unsure what, perhaps this is something for the new P.A.com.M. I would think that it could hook up to a portableapps.com server that would then tell it where to get the real installer and handle it from there.

I don't know what the specifics would be, I just suggest having an easy way to take your portable program and put it on the machine you've gotten. This and easy syncing would be nice as well ;]

Maybe I'm crazy and this is a stupid idea. You can tell me.

Copy the files to your hard drive?

Sounds like what you need is a basic file copy, a-la Windows Explorer. Pardon Not quite sure what you're getting at. I run portable apps off 2 computers at home and synchronize them by using Toucan. There's no magic involved. Running PortableApps from a non-portable (fixed) location is perfectly acceptable.

Not crazy, and it's easier than you think.

Portable Apps can be run off a regular computer, and in fact that's what I do for myself.
You could do this:
Make a folder on your C: drive - call it whatever you like - such as "MyPortableApps"
Copy the entire contents of your flash drive to that folder, and everything will work exactly the same, but faster.

I like this setup because I can back up this folder from time to time, and when the eventual hard drive failure occurs, I can quickly restore it.

I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
