Eraser.exe bad digital signature

Eraser.exe in Eraser Portable 5.8.8 has a bad digital signature.

I downloaded both 5.8.8 binaries from eraser.heidi.ie and the digital signatures for both copies of eraser.exe are valid from there.

Comments? Did eraser.heidi.ie host a bad download in the past and silently correct it? Was eraser.exe edited, corrupted, or infected by portableapps.com?

The EXE has been modified to give it the improved icon from 6.0 as well as improved toolbar and sidebar icons. The digital signature should have been stripped in the process, but I didn't realize it was signed at the time. Most open source software (and much software in general) only signs their installers, not their actual apps, because end-users are never exposed to it. Windows will only display it when you've downloaded an installer from the internet, normally. The fact that this is the first time it's been mentioned in the nearly 3 months this has been available serves as testament to that.

You're free to swap back in the unmodified 5.8.8 binary from heidi.ie (losing the updated icon, toolbar and sidebar icons). If you'd like to ensure you have the legit release from here, the MD5 of the file is 7173dd6177cff036e10072d3e95e2e1b.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
