InfraRecorder INability to create DVD-VIdeo discs...can PortableApps.com look into the portable app end???

Can PortableApps.com look into the portable app end of the INability to create DVD-VIdeo discs so they play in STANDALONE players with the polished interactive disc MENUs, i.e. : SPOKEN LANGUAGES & SUBTITLES, CHAPTER SELECTIONS, BONUS MATERIALS, etc???

Thanks!!

I will take a look at the DVD-Video functionality to see if I can find something that's wrong.

I've backed up many, many DVDs b4. Then burned many, many using any these programs: Nero, BurnAware, PORTABLE ImgBurn...so YES, I know how, i.e. :

YES, I'm aware of need for capitalization of folders, as suggested in my very first email

YES, also aware these 2 folders also have to be at the root level

AND they ALL worked in my STANDALONEs (AND PCs for that matter)

The only new change is I just started playing with PORTABLE InfraRecorder...and my result is not playable in standalones, unless with the somewhat cryptic folders (in other words, NO DVD disc MENU)

I guess I can make do/live with ImgBurn. Just that it's not intuitive, easy to me--the interface. Like InfraRecoder UI and ease of use, however...thus asking u to look into what's the problem and maybe it needs a fixing

Thanks,

Hi,

Just to clearify, DVD-Video discs should contain a folder named VIDEO_TS (in capital letters). In this folder there should be a collection of DVD-Video specific files. When reading a DVD-Video disc in Windows you will see this folder and its files.

If you made sure the files are in DVD-Video format before burning them (InfraRecorder cannot convert the video for you) and that you placed them in a folder called VIDEO_TS the disc should play in your DVD-Video player as long as you burn the disc using a video project in InfraRecorder.

Please confirm if you performed the above steps. If you did what type of disc did you record to, single layer or dual layer DVD? Can you tell me how the DVD-Video files were created?

Christian

Yes, I saw DVD-Video BUTTON/OPTION. But when I created disc for my (Philips) STANDALONE UPconversion DVD player by dragging the two folders into the new project lower right panel then gave the disc a name (or these 2 steps reversed--which I think doesN'T matter), the resulting disc shows a computer-like FOLDER STRUCTURE (I think like for MP3 musics I'm assuming because I'm NOT into music that much...yet anyway)...YES FOLDER(s) on my Philips (meaning no using DVD menu/beautiful artwork to navigate and making choices. This is how I know it's not DVD-Video MODE

YOUR help in matter greatly appreciated,

Hello,

Really? This should already be possible. I am not responsible for the portable apps distribution of InfraRecorder but I doubt they have removed any functionality. Selecting the DVD-Video option and adding your VIDEO_TS folder should be enough to create a DVD-Video disc.

...and that version doesn't seem to include a DVD-Video mode to burn??!!!

I need this mode because I would like to back up my VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS folders but if I burn it as DATA mode, I lose the nice, shiny, snazzy, interactive DVD MENU--just like when you put the disc in your STANDALONE DVD player--so that sucks

So can you please include DVD-Video mode in a future upcoming PORTABLE APP version, PLEASE???

Thanks,

No Changes

We remove no functionality from InfraRecorder in making the portable version, so the process is the same. I was unaware that InfraRecorder could even make menus and the like. Please try the local version to ensure you are doing it properly first, then take the exact same steps in the portable version to ensure it is a portable issue only (we only deal with portable-specific issues).

Which of 2 DL links@ http://infrarecorder.org?page_id=5 should I

try? http://infrarecorder.org?page_id=5

I'm using Vista 32-BIT on this computa currently.

So thinking about taking your advice to test out Christian's version BUT when I headed over there, come to find out there's a portable version. So the obvious question what's the difference between the 2 PORTABLE versions? Is Christian just mirroring PAs.com version over there? Or are they INdependent and distinct? If different, what pros/cons do PAs.com version have vs. Christian's?

So when you said try the ''LOCAL'' version, you meant:

    Installer (Windows 2000/XP/Vista, 3.27 MiB) ?

OR could Christian's

Zip archive (portable version, 3.98 MiB)

ALSO be considered ''LOCAL'' ? Which should I try of THESE 2? Or is it my choice?

Will test it out once I get the answer from you, then get back on the outcome!!!

THANKS!

Typically "Installer"

"Local" is referring to an unmodified original download from the Author's site that may or may not be portable. It may user the Registry, and/or system folders, and also user folders i.e. "My Documents". So in the case of InfraRecorder the you would want the "Installer" version.

As it turns out, it looks like InfraRecorder is natively portable since, as you pointed out Christian offers a "portable" version in a zip archive format. This is unlikely to be exactly the same as the PortableApps format since it doesn't meet that specification (simply by the act of packaging it in a zip archive).

Without getting into excruciating detail any application can potentially be portable without any intervention from PortableApps. However the PortableApps format is very specific so that each app built to the PortableApps specification behaves the same way. This makes it much easier to create a suite of portable applications.

CONCLUSION=PORTABLE, whether CK's ZipPED version or PAs.com=NO D

CONCLUSION=PORTABLE, whether CK's ZipPED version or PAs.com=NO DISC!!

thought I bypass/take shortcut directly to CK's PORTABLE/ZipPED version cuz if it works, then I might be able to save a step of testing with the ''installer'' version
(cuz u did say ''local'' could be either installer or zipped)

4/9/2010 Testing Results:

CK's PORTABLE/ZipPED version:
clicked DVD-VIdeo mode button
gave disc a name
dragged 2 folders VIDEO_TS & AUDIO_TS to project pane
clicked burn button (see http://yfrog.com/6hsburnbutton01j )...
...but got message disc not empty do u want to erase? (using RW disc)
if clicked NO, got message OF failED, so...
...clicked YES, got message FAILED[couldn't est file system size]...
...so clicked formal erase button (see http://yfrog.com/jaserasebutton02j )--but QUICK erase, seemed OK...
...but when proceeded to burn again, got message again: disc not empty do u want to erase? WTFreaking?...
...so clicked formal erase button--but FULL erase this time, took 20-35 minutes (time varies, depending on the instance)...
...but when proceeded to burn again, got message again: disc not empty do u want to erase? WTFreaking?...
...so clicked YES, AGAIN! Got message FAILED[couldn't est file system size] WTFreaking?...
...so you see, getting caught in an endless cycle so END result= NO DISC!!

PAs.com Version Test RESULTS:
went through same steps as CK's PORTABLE/ZipPED version, GOT EXACT SAME RESULTS=MEANING NO DISC!!

(AT LEAST WITH INITIAL BURN WITH PAs.com Version, got a playable disc, and if you guys remember, only thing was it wasN'T really DVD-VIdeo format cuz I got the cryptic folders structure that I had to navigate, NOT the multimedia menu, i.e. : SPOKEN LANGUAGES & SUBTITLES, CHAPTER SELECTIONS, BONUS MATERIALS, etc that the original disc ALSO has created by the movie studio!! Because no movie studio's multimedia menu, it means DVD-VIdeo mode broken!! )

POSSIBLE NEXT STEPs: ANYone think I should try The ''INSTALLER'' version? At this point, I'm thinking it will be the exact same result=NO DISC cuz EVEN CK's ZipPED version is derived from the INSTALLER version!!!!! What do u guys think? Go ahead and test the INSTALLER version?..............or live with my Portable ImgBurn (just UI clunky)..............or someone porta this great BurnAware.com FREEware for all of us to enjoy, cuz its DVD-VIdeo mode is NOT broken (see https://portableapps.com/node/23226 )

Stop Now

Please refrain from asking for BurnAware again. This is your final warning concerning this. Please refrain from random capping and random bolding in your posts. If you cannot post simple and clear facts, you should not continue.

If you can not burn a disc, you should try the local version (installed version) to ensure it is not an issue with your PC. RW discs in general are *very* hit and miss and many drives do not properly support them or advertise said support via Windows to burning programs.
