Stop Addons window popping-up

Hi everybody, I jumped from FirefoxPortable version 2.0.0.12 to fresh install of version 3.6.3. So far so good.

When starting FirefoxPortable, the addon’s windows is always popping up, indicating the installation of “global installs” such as ‘Java Quick Starter’, ‘.net Framework’.

I don’t want to stop the checking or installing, I just want to stop that “addon’s window” popping up for ANY install.

I couldn’t find anything appropriate in the .js file or this forum. Does anyone know the correct config to stop this window popping up after start/restart.

Thanks
freddy

as far as I know, it should

as far as I know, it should only pop up to install a new addon, and it will popup after a successful install. I've never found it that annoying.

Are you having that window open EVERY time you open firefox? Whether you installed\updated a addon?

.

Thanks for the replies so far, OliverK yeah it's very annoying if using several terminals a day. And that window keeps popping up for global installs of ‘java Quick Starter’, ‘.net Framework’ and ‘Move Media Player’.

allow it to install ...

right? Why not just add the updates that it is telling you to do, then it won't come back up until the next add-on is fixed.

Don't be an uberPr∅. They are stinky.

They're not updates

they are the addons that are installed in the global addons area on the local PC, rather than in the user profile area. i.e. the ones auto added when you install some application that has a local companent and incidentally a firefox addon, such as .NET, Java, some AV tools, etc.

There is an about:config entry that you can set to disable scanning for them, which fixes this behaviour completely. It has been referenced in a couple of threads here, but I can't remember the exact name off hand.

Edit:
found it - take a look at the following article :
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Plugin_scanning

It discusses a set of settings that should allow you to control the behaviour
plugin.scan.4xPluginFolder
plugin.scan.SunJRE
plugin.scan.WindowsMediaPlayer
plugin.scan.plid.all

They each have slightly different semantics, so check the Mozillazine article for details.

i'll have a look

tks jimbo,

I already knew about plugin.scan.plid.all which is kinda a sledgehammer approach, to my little irritation. But I'll look at the rest of the page.

But i don't particularly want to stop the checking or installing, just rather the window addon's window popping up, every time i plug into a terminal and start firefox.

Suggestion:

Suggestion: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1027

The addon combines many windows (addons, downloads, etc) in firefox into one sidebar.

Thanks gluxon for the suggestion, but I’d rather find a config or chrome.css solution.

I solved!!!

ok
type "about:config" in the adress bar
then you confirm that you will be careful.
then you type "start" in the filter bar, so you set browser.download.manager.showWhenStarting as false, solved!
