[Discontinued] Tremulous Portable

Application: Tremulous
Category: Games
Description:

Tremulous is a free, open source game that blends a team based FPS with elements of an RTS. Players can choose from 2 unique races, aliens and humans. Players on both teams are able to build working structures in-game like an RTS. These structures provide many functions, the most important being spawning. The designated builders must ensure there are spawn structures or other players will not be able to rejoin the game after death. Other structures provide automated base defense (to some degree), healing functions and much more...

Player advancement is different depending on which team you are on. As a human, players are rewarded with credits for each alien kill. These credits may be used to purchase new weapons and upgrades from the "Armoury". The alien team advances quite differently. Upon killing a human foe, the alien is able to evolve into a new class. The more kills gained the more powerful the classes available.

The overall objective behind Tremulous is to eliminate the opposing team. This is achieved by not only killing the opposing players but also removing their ability to respawn by destroying their spawn structures.

Feedback

Works on XP SP3.
Noticed it leaves behind the firewall entry. Not sure if this supposed to be like that but thought should bring to attention.

Should .\SauerbratenPortable\Other\Source\AppNamePortable.ini be TremulousPortable.ini?

And thanks for developing this and the other games Smile

I'll have to ask about

I'll have to ask about that.

You mean .\TremulousPortable\Other\Source\AppNamePortable.ini? And no. That's just an example file for the user. (John said at one point he's thinking about removing that file altogether and noting in the readme how to create it). In all of my projects it remains AppNamePortable.ini.

Well.

The problem I had with settings the fs_homepath cvar seems to have been a bug with SDL. I tried with the Tremulous dev preview and it sets the cvar correctly, but the dev preview was unplayable.

Hopefully they finally get 1.2 released soon, and hopefully OpenArena updates soon as well as I had the same problem.

EDIT: Nevermind, OpenArena is using the updated SDL. I'll have that updated tonight and added to the ready for release thread.

No longer maintained.

Seeing as how the base app seems to be essentially dead, I've decided to no longer support this app. I will leave the download in tact for a few days in case anyone else wants to take it over anyway. After that, I will be removing it from SF.

Tremolous iirc is now a

Tremolous iirc is now a different name it's now Unvanquished http://www.unvanquished.net/ well it's more of a fork

Unvanquished is a fork of Tremulous, powered by the Daemon engine. It is a free, open-source first-person strategy shooter, pitting technologically advanced human soldiers against hordes of highly adaptable aliens. Players can choose from either team, providing for an entirely different experience on both sides, as humans focus on long-range firepower while aliens rely instead on quick movement and stealth. The goal of each match is to destroy the enemy base, preventing members of the opposing team from spawning. Upgrades for both teams are earned by a combination of individual performance and team map control, unlocking access to more powerful weapons and equipment for the humans, and larger, more ferocious forms for the aliens.

In that case.

I will be packaging this app instead, and leaving this one discontinued. Smile
