Is there ever going to be a Portable version of Shareaza or Ares? I've been searching, andf though I found a portable Shareaza 2.0, ot was made from an Alpha version. I saw a few things on the forum here, but they're all dated several years ago.

I would probably use a portable Shareaza Client, too... - ...hope, there will be one, somewhen...
I've simply started using eMule configuring it to be portable, and it's working pretty good.
I searched the forums too. It doesn't look like its being actively developed, and I think a lot of people would really like this app.
Anyone opposed?

John said many moons ago that he was working on ShareazaPortable but I have no idea what happened to it. It's one of the few apps that I still install on PCs these days, so it'd be awesome to have a portable version.
Shareaza adds 2000 values to the registry (compare this to 0 by the other app I just portable-ized and you get a HUGE difference). Its comparable to the garbage man taking his truck full of trash and throwing it all over the city
It will take many days to make it portable and once it is done, it may take a while to load 
The good news is that, I just took a look at Ares... It seems self contained and leaves nothing but one registry entry.

What exactly is Ares? Does it connect to standard network protocols such as Gnutella (1 and/or 2) or is it it's own network?
which Ares site is the real one? From about 10 seconds of searching there seem to be several sites claiming that they are the best Ares version to download, which stinks to high heaven of a con job, a bit like when Shareaza's domain got hijacked and there exists some scumbag, cheatware version. According to Ares.com the original software is a piece of bugged, unsupported cr@p that you wouldn't even feed your dog.

A note for Pyromaniac: now I'm unsure which name should you give to your project, (1) Ares Galaxy Portable, or (2) Ares Portable. Maybe others should vote for the name as well... Just as you initially intended
Darkbee, it appears that this is the only add-free version, while all the other Ares clones just added banners and ads into their programs, and used this as their base. IDK though... Take a look at the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ares_Galaxy if you care...

You mean MY domain, my username's namesake (as per my profile page)? I don't know what the "web of trust" is. If it's possible I suspect I know who might have sobotaged my site to make it untrusted. Some mildly mentally disturbed admin whose underhanded tactics I exposed in an article I wrote.
I did have a friend report that my website is reported as a phishing site by one DNS lookup provider. I wrote to them trying to have my site unlisted as phishing but never heard back.
How would one go about be entrusted into the web of trust coz it's mighty cold being on the outside looking in.

Lets see I joined the WOT site, one rating by Pyro, I left rating your trustworthiness rep was 38% I added 100% now assuming 3 reviews, mine, pyro and some phantom person Last time I went to school ( ok calculators were just coming out) the rating should increase as even 138/3 = 46% yet it remained at 38%

It doesn't seem like many people really want it
And it has a slight bug as far as portability goes. but I´ll have to try it on different machines to see how it behaves. The one problem (till now) is in specifying the download folder, It requires a drive letter. But the drive will change from one machine to another.

Okay, one problem to report.
It defaults to using a folder on the hard drive for downloads. Even though I changed it to a folder on the flash drive, when I start Ares Portable on a different machine, it defaults back to:
C:\Documents and Settings\Configuración local\Datos de programa\Ares\My Shared Folder (This is a Spanish machine)
And the Bit Torrent Directory defaults back to
C:\Documents and Settings\Estacion 06\Escritorio (Desktop)
I'll upload a fixed version shortly.
