mp3 player

mine died a mysterious death.

I had a 2GB sansa Clip which had a firmware upgrade to play FLAC, OGG and WAV (better than previous FW).

the thing i liked about it was how easy it was to use. to charge it you had to find a mini usb cable or charger. i have a blackberry and a Motorola Razr and a BT headset that all use mini usb. also i have a tip for my PDA charger that makes it a usb charger and this usb tip is compatable with the PSP charger as well. to sync it i just plug it into a computer using the same data cable as i would with a PSP, Blackberry, Multimemorycard reader. for tranfering music all i had to do was drag and drop files or folders.

now this one is dead and i am left with 3 mp3 players with propriatary software and cables.

So my question for you is what mp3 player would you recomend that fits my needs?

Mini USB or non-propriatary USB
Must be MSC (MSD) capable
Drag and Drop
MP3 and FLAC

thanks

AnythingButiPod.com

Can't really offer anything concrete other than:
AnythingButiPod.com which was posted on this site a while ago. Seems like a great website if you didn't know about it already.

nice site

funny, it has an option for "AM" radio search, but nothing pops up. What i expected, though.

Very cool, I'll probably get a 'clip'.

I want an HD radio, but will probably use my MOTO Q, problem with that is it only supports up to 2GB memory card, not bad... maybe I'll wait and not get the clip, just a couple or three memory cards. And I am semi-sure I can download an app that does radio, if it doesn't already, but the network speed might make that pointless.

Besides, I want 'local' HD radio. I'll hold out for a zune or something else that is notanipod (and not M$ - i actually kind of feel sorry for M$, but linux has not taken hold strongly enough, yet)[definitely hate the apple, though... it is sickening to see it, and especially when people close to you have the disease)

Razr and Blackberry

Your Razr and Blackberry should both be able to do the job of a 2GB Sansa Mp3 player. You don't (really) need .wav, you don't need .ogg (get .mp3s) and let's not kid ourselves, you're not going to be able to tell a FLAC from a well encoded .mp3, not on headphones anyway.

I'd just use the Blackberry. It probably has a nice music player and can probably support memory cards larger than 2GB (where the Razr may be capped at).

The only pure Mp3 player I've owned is a Creative Zen, 40GB Touch (not touch screen, ironically, it's just a touch slider). It works but it's been out of service for a couple years. It worked great for about 4-5 years, though, and I stopped using it because I got a CD player in the car, not through any fault of the device. So I recommend them, whatever they have now.

Razr

the razr sucks. i have one and the battery life is shoddy, syncing it with a computer is a pain in the ass. sadly making it sync with linux has more instructions than with stupid winblowz.

The blackberry is decent if you set it to mount the SD card as a MSC. otherwise it is a hassel to deal with (not as much as the Razr). also the battery life when playing music on it sucks.

I had a Creative Zen Vision M that died from the infamous click of death. i was able to get it to sync with linux only after installing certian programs. The Clip has proven to be the least troublesome of all that i have owned... well minus the Samsung YP-5 i had :3.

i am currently using a haxxx0rd Sansa c240 that proves to have its own headaches.

sigh.

debate!

Huh?

Well, I bought a Clip, has 4gb, works great, is very light, the headphones are nice, if a little on the wimpy side, my right ear is a little larger, and they tend to just fall out, but these stay in pretty well. I especially like the custom 5 band eq setting. It also has lots of preset eq's.

I recommend it. On sale at Radio Shack for 44.99, good enough, i needed one immediately. My MotoQ plays music, but it needs a mem card, which is fine, at only $6 for each 2gb card, you can swap em out. I can put apps on one, music on another. Whatever, I am going to use my clip instead. haha..

Mir: what are you talking about? Your jargon escapes me.

I think what you are saying is that the clip is cool and better than using your cellphone. I am sure. It is great.

[oh, the clip can do a microsdhc card up to 16gb! I got a 8gb card with adapter/reader (actually 2 adapters, sd and minisd, and nice new/small kensington usb reader) for 19.99 free shipping, bing cashback, etc... You can get em on buy.com, or some other place i chose instead of... the 16gb is aroung $45)

That is only for the clip + not the classic Clip

clip + ?

the tech at RadioShack said it could do a card the size of the internal memory. The manual said it could do 16gb. I got an 8gb card coming so I will let you know. I figure I have the clip +, as I got it new and they had only one version. Didn't notice, though.

Is the raphsody software any good? It says millions of free songs... i haven't tried it yet, computer broke.

[ah, i went to rockbox.com, the picture of the clip+ is mine)

ok, rockbox is cool, but it doesn't support ff/fr with sound!?!

Clip

the classic Clip controls are circular and there is no microSD slot.

rockbox for the clip may add better sound controls but i wont bother if i get another clip seeing as the stock (or OFW officialFirmWare) is good enough for me.

right

the clip (+) is very nice, and certainly 'good enough'.

I would be interested in TRYing rockbox, if I could be sure I could revert to the clip default if I wanted to. I suppose it is possible, probably a simple download from sansa (?)

Also its called the Clip+ not the Clip (+).

i would get a FUZE if i where to go with rockbox.

clip (+)

I got the clip (+) cause it is small and light, and I have no desire to watch video on a small screen.

I have a Sony Walkman, It has been pretty faithful, not sure if it will meet your needs or not.
Also: You might want to look at the ones Rockbox can run on http://build.rockbox.org/

I have a sony nwz-e345. It has drag and drop. It uses usb. I'm not sure about FLAC and how it mounts. I love it though.
