utorrent - reboot resets list

hello

I am using utorrent portable on my windows home server (WHS) and am experiencing an issue that im hoping someone else might have solved.

The issue is that when I reboot the server or restart the app the list of active torrents is cleared.

I would like to explain the set up I have, and reasons behind the decision i have made.

Because I use WHS I run utorrent portable as a service, as normally no one is logged on. When I connect to the home server I log on as the administrator, however I would rather not run the utorrent service as the admin so I use another account. The reason im using utorrent portable is so that the settings are common for all users that run the portable version (admin or service account), I store application on c: of the server, all data files are saved to d:\torrents

Normally I access utorrent through the web ui.

When I kill the service, so I can run the app through the desktop (I do this to change RSS settings amongst other things), the list of active torrents are lost.
Meaning that when I restart the service or run the application there are no torrents in the list.

Has anyone else experience this issue, and do you know a way around it.

Any other thoughts or suggestion would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

Not a service

You can't just use uTorrent Portable as a service. That breaks all portability and we can't help you with any issues you may have.

service is not the issue (i dont think)

thanks for the reply.
I realise that running utorrent portable as a service is not the intended application, is does solve a few issues i had with the default application.
These are the need to install (portable allows copy install method) and shared setting for different users.

I don't think the service is what is causing the problem, possibly it is running the app as two different users.

As you have taken the time to get utorrent to work in a portable fashion I was hoping that someone might be able offer some insight to what is causing the issue im having?

Service

It's more likely to be the running as a service as anything else - you're bypassing the launcher.

service

The service is set up to call uTorrentPortable.exe not the utorrent.exe.

Could you offer any details or what the launcher does, specific with regards to anything that happens in the user profile folder?

It might be that what I want to do is currently not possible, but would like to understand a bit more.

thanks

Start Normally

Start it normally, see if the issue persists. If it doesn't, then the issue is you running it as a service which, as stated, is not supported. I can pretty much guarantee that it's because you're running it as a service, which means the full standard Windows environment isn't available to the app. The launcher is not designed to be run as a service.

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
